# Media asset policy

INTERPRETIVE NOTE: This file describes public asset-format policy for documentation delivery. It does not widen product claims.

## WebP-first rule

WP Google Street View documentation assets should be served as **WebP** whenever possible.

Preferred formats:
- `.webp` for screenshots, banners, cards, and Open Graph-style documentation assets

Allowed compatibility exceptions:
- `apple-touch-icon.png`
- `favicon.ico`
- `favicon-32x32.png`
- `favicon-16x16.png`
- `site.webmanifest`

Discouraged legacy formats for new documentation assets:
- `.jpg`
- `.jpeg`
- `.png` (except explicit compatibility cases)

## Why this matters

A WebP-first policy reduces transfer size, improves consistency, and makes the site easier to keep performant without changing any product claim.
