WebP-first rule

WP Google Street View documentation assets should be served as WebP whenever possible.

Preferred formats:

• .webp for screenshots, banners, cards, and Open Graph-style documentation assets

Allowed compatibility exceptions:

• apple-touch-icon.png
• favicon.ico

Discouraged legacy formats for new documentation assets:

• .jpg
• .jpeg
• .png (except explicit compatibility cases)

Why this matters

A WebP-first policy reduces transfer size, improves consistency, and makes the site easier to keep performant without changing any product claim.
